An epic's weavers are honoured

CHENNAI:
The weavers and artisans who created the Guinness rcord sari that traces 500 years of Indian history were honoured by the sari maker Pothys on Thursday.
The sari has been produced in a single piece — nearly 400 metres long and just over a metre wide.
It was woven by three master weavers, six painters all belonging to Pothys. It has paintings depicting Indian history from the Mohanjedaro-Harappa culture down to the freedom struggle. Intricately woven into the cloth are exquisite monuments including the Parliament building, the Taj Mahal, the Charminar, The Qutab Minar, the Thanjavur Big Temple, Golden temple-Amritsar and the Egmore Church. Industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty, dancer Padma Subrahmaniam, educationist Mrs. Y.G.Parthasarathy, Carnatic singer Sudha Ragunathan and Ramesh of Pothys offered felicitations.
