SFI burns copy of court judgment

Staff Reporter

"In effect, it will lead to plunder of students' money by private colleges"

CHENNAI: Student Federation of India (SFI) activists burnt a copy of the Supreme Court judgment allowing self-financing colleges to decide admissions without government intervention, in front of the Pachaiyappa's College here on Friday.

This is part of their continued protests against the judgment, which the SFI members said was against the concept of social justice and would encourage commercialisation of education.

"In effect, it will lead to plunder of students' money by private colleges.

"While the issue of reservation has been brought up in Parliament, the commercialisation of education is yet to be legislated against,'' G. Selva, President of SFI, Tamil Nadu unit said.

The SFI will meet on Sunday in Salem to discuss the further course of action.
