NIOS offer to students

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), an autonomous organisation providing vocational, community oriented and academic courses, is offering an opportunity for candidates who have failed to secure admission to plus-one classes to pursue higher education.

The candidates will be free to choose any five subjects based on their area of interest. They will be given nine chances in five years to clear the exams. Candidates will also have the option to clear each subject separately. Another significant initiative of this scheme is the `on-demand examination,' where assessment takes place when a candidate feels he is prepared.

The course recognised by the Government of India will be conducted through study centres or accredited institutes at the respective localities. There is no age barrier.

The NIOS, formerly known as National Open School, with 1.3 million learners is one of the largest open schooling organisations in the world.

The last date for registering for the course is August 31. For details, contact Joint Director and Head, Regional Centre, Mamangalam, Palarivattom, Kochi, phone: 0484- 2335714, website: www.nos.org/www.nios.ac.in
