Title deeds for 28,000 slum-dwellers soon

DHARWAD: S.R. Morey, Minister for Municipal Administration and district in-charge Minister, has said that title deeds for the 28,000 slum-dwellers in Hubli-Dharwad will distributed from September.

Chairing a meeting of officials of the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board and Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation here on Friday, Mr. Morey said there are 69 slums in Hubli and 33 slums in Dharwad.

He said that steps are being initiated for construction of 935 houses in Hubli and 343 houses in Dharwad at a cost of Rs. 5 crores under the "Valmiki Awas Yojana." Beneficiaries under the scheme have been identified and the work will start as soon as the funds are released from the Finance Department, he said.

For the development of the slums in the twin cities, Rs. 2.68 crores has been released for Dharwad and Rs. 4.10 crores for Hubli. Seven areas in Hubli and three in Dharwad have been recently identified as slums and the proposal has been sent to the State Government for declaration, Mr. Morey said.

He said that a State-level Teachers' Day will be celebrated in Dharwad and award winning teachers will be felicitated.
