Killed in encounter with terrorists

KARWAR: Vinod M. Naik (23) of Kadwad, near here, who joined the Corps of Military Police three years ago, died in an encounter with terrorists in the Poonch sector near Jammu.

His body is expected to arrive here on Sunday, according to information received by the district administration from Army Headquarters.

For the sister and parents of Vinod, Raksha Bandhan day became a day of mourning after receiving the message. Vinod's father, Mahadev Naik, who is an employee of Solaris Chem Tech Limited, Binaga, said his son was enthusiastic to join the army while he was studying in an industrial training institute.

Being the only son, the parents were hesitant to allow him to do so. However, Vinod assured the parents that nothing would happen to him and they need not worry. "I wish to serve my country as a soldier," he had said.
