Children's rally to promote renewable energy resources

District administration, zilla panchayat celebrate Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Divas



TOWARDS PROTECTING ENVIRONMENT: Schoolchildren taking out a procession in Gulbarga on Saturday.

GULBARGA: Children from different schools participated in a campaign here on Saturday to create awareness among people about the need to protect the environment by tapping renewable energy sources.

The district administration and the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat had organised a procession of schoolchildren, who formed a human chain to mark Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas. The procession culminated at the Deputy Commissioner's office where the children took an oath to protect the environment by tapping renewable sources of energy.

Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez and Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat M.S. Srikar administered the oath to the children. The zilla panchayat had organised different competitions for schoolchildren on environmental protection and renewable sources of energy.

Children who won in the competitions were given away merit certificates and prizes by the district administration. Following is the list of children who won prizes in the competitions: Kumari Shilpa (first place in English debate); Syed Moinuddin Shaikh (first place in Urdu essay competition) and Akhil Ahmed (second place); Sweta Malanna (first place in Kannada debate), Radhika Sharanappa (second place), Baba Saheb Allahuddin (third place) and Lokesh B. Patil (consolation prize); Kumari Sumati N. Chinmalli (first place in elocution), Trupti D. Pawar (second place) and Lokesh Patil (third place); Nagaraj (first place in quiz), Mohammed Fadarray (second place) and Shilpa (third place); Miraz Asif (first place in painting), Umeda Tamkin (second place), Varun Devanali (third place) and Arthur Wilsom and Vijayshri (consolation prizes).
