Fair price shop owners warned

Staff Correspondent

MADIKERI: The Kodagu Deputy Commissioner, Subodh Yadav, on Saturday warned officials of the Food Department and owners of fair price shops of stringent action if they showed callousness in the distribution of commodities to the people in time.

Presiding over the Food Adalat here on Saturday, he said Food Shirastedars and Food Inspectors should exercise care in perusing through the complaints received from the people well before the Adalat.

He said the officials of the Food Department should take steps to dispose of applications on the lines of courts.

Food Inspectors must visit the fair price depots every month and check the food stock, distribution, signboards and registers.

If those managing affairs at the depots did not live up to the aspirations of the people, such staff would be dealt with on disciplinary grounds.

Of the seven applications received on Saturday, four pertained to seeking permission to open new fair price shops.
