NAGERCOIL: The police on Saturday arrested one person and recovered stolen jewels worth Rs.3.50 lakhs. According to the police, as directed by the Superintendent of Police, Ramasubramani, a special team was formed to nab a thief who was involved in more then five theft cases. During a routine patrol, the team noticed a person moving in a suspicious manner at Therisanamkioppu near Boothapandi. They swung into action and arrested him. During interrogation Vijaya Kumar (25) of Perunthalaicadu under Boothapandi police limits told the police that he burgled the house of one Victor and decamped with 40 sovereigns of gold ornaments in March 2002. Similarly, he burgled the house of a manager of Kamalagiri estate, lifted clove and other household articles worth Rs.15,000, also burgled the house of Ramasamy and decamped with 20 sovereigns of gold ornaments. Later, he was produced before a magistrate who remanded to judicial custody.
