Metro earns Rs. 39 lakhs on Raksha Bandhan

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had a record earning of over Rs. 39 lakhs on Friday, Raksha Bandhan day, as its ridership for the day reached a new high of 3.63 lakh passengers.

It ran 90 additional trips and the peak frequency of five minutes was maintained right from 8 a.m. up to 9-30 at night.

To ferry the record number of passengers, the Corporation ran a total of 714 trips during the day.

In fact, DMRC said, in 2004 also it had been deluged with passengers on Raksha Bandhan. This timethe heavy rush was witnessed at Welcome, Seelampur, Pitampura and Rohini East metro stations with a total of 2.56 lakh passengers travelling on Line I between Shahdara and Rithala and about 1.07 lakh passengers travelling on Line II between Delhi University and Central Secretariat.

The new high has been reached at a time when the Metro is about to add another 32.1 km of corridors to its operation with the completion of the Indraprastha-Dwarka Subcity section later this year.
