KAKINADA: The major thrust now should be on the use of non-conventional energy sources as the conventional energy sources such as oil, coal and natural gas are getting depleted fast, said to M.Suryanarayana, the District Revenue Officer.

Participating as chief guest at the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas celebrations under the joint auspices of district NEDCAP and Education Department here on Saturday, he said the future of mankind depended largely on promotion of accelerated development of renewable energy. He wanted people to go for solar, wind energy and tidal wave energy.

Earlier, the DRO and the DEO Prasannakumar offered floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi at his statue at the Balaji Cheruvu centre.

The DEO flagged off the rally of students and youth organisation representatives at Balaji cheruvu centres, which passed through the Temple Street, Main road and concluded at the DEO's office. Later at a public meeting held at the PR Boys high school here, the Deputy Director of Social Welfare D.V. Ramanamurthy, who was the chief guest, said that India had the largest coastal line with the solar energy and monsoon winds available throughout the year. He said if these non-conventional energy sources were exploited properly, India could become the super power as far as energy sources are concerned.
