Helping Hearts and helping hands

NEW DELHI: To coincide with Independence Day celebrations, Udhavum Idhayangal (Helping Hearts) in association with Canara Bank, Munirka branch, distributed 124 sets of uniform and 200 notebooks to visually handicapped children studying in the school run by the Association for the Blind, R. K. Puram.

The Chief Manager of Canara Bank, Munirka, H.S.Shenoy, distributed the uniforms and notebooks in the presence of the Helping Hearts secretary, Muthuvel, and other office-bearers. Children studying in DTEA, Kerala and Telugu schools also received uniforms and notebooks from Mr. Shenoy.

Public meeting

NEW DELHI: The All-India Confederation of Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe Organisations and Indian Justice Party have joined hands to hold a public meeting at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday in protest against the recent Supreme Court judgment denying reservation to Dalits and Backward Classes in private colleges, medical and engineering institutions.

The secretary of the Communist Party of India, D. Raja, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Nilotpal Basu, and Bharatiya Janata Party's Satyanarayan Jatiya will address the meeting.

Special court held in Tihar Jail

NEW DELHI: A special court was held in the Tihar Jail complex on Saturday to dispose of cases of petty offenders languishing in the jail.

The court, presided over by Metropolitan Magistrate Bharat Parashar, took up cases of 44 confessing prisoners out of which 35 were discharged while nine cases were referred back to the regional courts.

IGNOU admissions

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University has begun the admission process for Master of Business Administration (Banking and Finance). A candidate should be a member of the Indian Institute of Bankers, passed the CAIIB examination and a graduate working in the banking or financial services sector for at least two years.

The prospectus can be obtained from any of the IGNOU regional centres or Registrar at Maidan Garhi on payment of Rs.300 in cash or Rs. 350 by demand draft. The last date for submission of applications at the Regional Centre is November 11.

Consumer goods expo

NEW DELHI: Aimed at providing business opportunities for renowned companies and making consumers aware about new products, a three-day consumer goods expo, "Brand Durbar", featuring major Indian and global brands opened at Pragati Maidan here on Saturday.

Some of the leading consumer goods companies participating in the expo are Nokia, IFB, Whitelineand Nestle polo.
