New passenger train from today

MADURAI: The Southern Railway is to introduce a new passenger train between Tenkasi and Madurai from August 21.

According to a Southern Railway press release, the train will run as a special on the inaugural day and regularised from August 22. It will be operated to the following timings: 786 Tenkasi-Madurai passenger will leave Tenkasi at 7 a.m., reach Virudhunagar at 9.45 a.m. and arrive Madurai at 10.45 a.m.

The 785 Madurai-Tenkasi passenger will leave Madurai at 5 p.m. and reach Virudhunagar at 5.50 p.m. Leaving Virudhunagar at 5.55 p.m., the train will reach Tenkasi at 8.50 p.m. It will have a composition of eight general second-class coaches and two general second class-cum-luggage vans.

The train will be flagged off by Anbumani Ramadoss, Union Health Minister, on August 21 at Tenkasi. R. Velu, Union Minister of State for Railways, will preside over the function, the release added.
