Sanskrit Day observed

Thiruvananthapuram: Various programmes were organised by Samskritha Bharathi in here on Saturday in connection with the Sanskrit Day. Gita recitation and Sanskrit quiz were among the competitions conducted for students. K. Sankaran, Director of Indian Systems of Medicine, inaugurated the public meeting. Sanskrit scholar R. Thiruvananthapuram: N. Raghavendran Potti and J.S. Rajesh have been elected president and general secretary of the Kerala PSC Employees Union at the 32nd two-day State conference of the union that concluded at the VJT Hall here on Saturday, according to a press release here. — Staff Reporter

Eye donation fortnight from August 25

Thiruvananthapuram: The 20th national eye donation fortnight will be observed in the State from August 25 to September 8. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of officials convened here on Thursday by B. Mahilamony, Director of Health Services. — Staff Reporter

Chembai Cash Award announced

Thiruvananthapuram: S. Jayasree has bagged the Chembai Cash Award instituted by the State Government,according to a release quoting P. Gopalaraman, chairman, Sri Chembai Memorial Trust. The award for violin, mridangam and Uma Maheswaran Award have been won by Sampath, P. Hareesh and Nandini respectively, the release said. — Staff Reporter

Seminar held

THIRUVANANTHAUPRAM: The State will implement more schemes for increasing the power generated from wind, small hydel sources and organic waste in the coming days. This was announced by Principal Secretary for Energy Lizzie Jacob at the inauguration of a State-level seminar organised by the State Energy Department and the Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) as part of the observance of Rajiv Gandhi Akshaya Energy Day here on Saturday.
