THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 24-hour control room had been set up in taluk headquarters and checking of vehicles and night patrolling intensified by the Excise Department as part of the efforts to prevent the sale of illicit liquor in the district during the forthcoming Onam. A district-level control room headed by the Assistant Excise Commissioner has also begun functioning in Thiruvananthapuram. Circle Inspectors have been posted in the control rooms in Thiruvananthapuram, Neyattinkara. Nedumangad and Attingal. Additional personnel have been deputed at all the checkposts to prevent the entry of illicit liquor into the State, the Assistant Excise Commissioner said in a press release here. The department has urged the public to pass on information about illicit liquor sales to the control rooms.
