GUNTUR: Guntur city will soon have its own science museum and a planetarium as the State Government is keen on creating a scientific temperament among the people, said the Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao. Laying foundation stone for the museum at Vidya Nagar on Saturday, he said that the project was the dream of Guntur-II MLA Tadisetti Venkata Rao. Earlier, he laid the foundation for a home for the street children to be built at a cost of Rs. 5.5 lakhs at Arundelpet. The home would have a capacity for 100 children and come up over the existing municipal complex, said the Municipal Commissioner, D. Rama Rao.
Clock tower
The Congress leaders laid foundation for road widening works on Amaravati Road, Chilakaluripet Road and a community hall-cum-training centre for women Self Help Groups (SHGs) at Bharatnagar. A pylon and a clock tower would come up near the Mother Theresa statue at Lakshmipuram Junction, to commemorate 100 years of Guntur district, for which the foundation was laid. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, K. Keshava Rao, laid the foundation for housing scheme under the Rajiv Gruha Kalpa programme at Swarnabharati Nagar. The Rs. 8.07 crores project, envisages providing housing for 1,248 families in the three-storied buildings. Foundation was also laid for the Rs. 75-lakh Rajiv Gandhi Park, with a walking track, food courts and a gymnasium would come up near the lake at Gujjanagulla Centre.
