KOCHI: Colours, abstract patterns and images mark the works of Gireesan Bhattathiripad which have come up for exhibition in the city. His exhibition is an example of art adapting to the present times. Landscapes dominate Bhattathiripad's artworks. The landscapes are play of colours, pleasing ones at that. "The realistic works will lose their charm after the first sight. The trend of paintings employing narrative patterns is waning. But, the abstract works will remain new forever," says the artist. No wonder then that most of the enquiries he gets are from interior designers. The art is slowly finding a new role in the market. Bhattathiripad has employed the technique of squeezing, wherein the colours are made and blended on the glass. The hues are then transferred to canvas, with the end result being a blurred plane of colours without absolute forms. He had assisted Sabu Cyril, art director, in the film Pavithram. After a couple of advertisement films, the artist realised that canvases and colours are his forte and returned to them. The exhibition will be on till August 27.
