HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad regional round of the nationwide Hindu Young World Quiz Contest-2005 lived up to its reputation, drawing an overwhelming response from students of 165 schools here on Monday. The enthusiastic teams, 513 in all, including 115 outstation teams from 44 schools, had a rollicking time at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. They enjoyed every minute of the four-hour-quizzing one preliminary round and six rounds of the final, cracking many a tough question with amazing enthusiasm and quick recollection of facts. It was evident that the students loved a challenge as they tackled an eclectic mix of questions on subjects as varied as epics, history, politics, sports, commerce, art, music, science, films and wildlife, with the theme being "On everything India." The final saw a tie between three teams and the tiebreaker question saw the team S. Ganesh Kumar and Sai Shravith from New Generation Junior College emerging winner. It would represent the city in the national final in Kochi on October 1. A beaming Ganesh said his 22-day intensive preparation had paid off.
The runners-up were Abdaal M Akhtar and T. Vamsi Krishna from Johnsons Grammar School and third place went to M. Srujan and B. Aditya Vikram of Little Flowers High School. The Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, who was the chief guest and prominent badminton player Gopichand gave away the prizes. `Quizwallahs' managed the event and the title sponsor of the mega event was Eveready Batteries. IQ Topper was the association sponsor apart from several regional sponsors. The quiz contest was organised earlier in Visakhapatnam on August 17 and Vijayawada on August 19. The Visakhapatnam winners are: While Divyanshu Arora and Sanjay Nanda of Delhi Public School from Damanjodi (Orissa) won the first prize, Srikanth Pradhan and Subhranshu Mohan Padhi of Muralidhar Academy and A.V. Harish and Ch.S. Kishore Bhargav of Sri Chaitanya Junior College bagged the second and third prizes respectively. As many as 344 teams, including teams from 53 outstation schools participated in the event. The Vijayawada winners are: A.C. Pradyumna and R.Y. Prathik of V.P.S. Public School emerged winners in the Vijayawada regional round while N.S.M. Public School, represented by M. Manoj Kumar and K. Rohit were the runners-up. In all, 410 teams, including 183 outstation teams from 140 schools took part in the event.
