DAR ES SALAAM: A 12-year-old has set a mountaineering record by surmounting Africa's highest peak Kilimanjaro, according to reports reaching here on Monday. Ryan Eckert, 12, has conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, also the world's highest solitary mountain, accompanied by Guide Honest Minja through the tough Machame route. It took the American boy seven days to reach the 5,895-metre summit. His father Jeff and his elder brother Jared both failed to make it to the top. "Adults have failed to conquer the Roof of Africa through the Marangu route which is relatively an easy one," said the mountaineering guide. "The boy deserves to get into the Guinness Book of Records for the feat." Ryan is now attending an international school in Lagos of Nigeria. Xinhua
