New National Security Advisory Board chief

Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI: M.K. Rasgotra, a former Foreign Secretary, was appointed convenor of the National Security Advisory Board in place of S.K. Lambah for a two-year term. Mr. Lambah, who has been the back channel for diplomatic negotiations with Pakistan since 2004, was formally appointed Special Envoy in the Prime Minister's Office in the rank of Secretary.

Though Mr. Lambah, a former High Commissioner to Islamabad, has been the designated point man for quiet diplomacy with Pakistan for more than a year, this is the first time that the Government has officially recognised him as such.
