The Government was ordered to deposit the compensation amount in the court of the Civil Judge (Junior Division), Bangarpet, within four months of the date of receipt of the order.The court, in turn, was asked to place the amount for 10 years in fixed deposit in the joint names of the woman and her two children. The petitioner, Lakshmamma, said her husband, Gopalappa, was picked up on July 22, 1996 from their house by the Bangarpet policeon charges of stealing tomato seedlings from the field of Nanjappa. Gopalappa died on July 23 while in the custody of Bangarpet police. Staff Reporter

According to information, the helicopter, which was on a mission for searching the victims of the helicopter disaster in Belgaum district, had to make the emergency landing due to inclement weather. Special Correspondent
Four held, weapons seized
An official press release said the four persons were trying to block vehicles by putting boulders across the road near Beerenakatte village in Hosadurga taluk. They intended to rob people by threatening them with weapons, the release added. The arrested have been identified as Karibasappa, 21, Durgesh, 18, Shivanna, 20, and Manjunath, 19, all residents of the same village. Ganesh, 18, another accused, is yet to be arrested, the official release said. The police have seized weapons from the accused. Staff Correspondent

EDUSAT centre sought
He was presiding over the inaugural function of the audio-visual hall at the Government High (South) School here. Mr. Bhat said the Government has sanctioned EDUSAT training facilities for Udupi and Chamarajnagar districts. While Chamarajnagar has the facility, Udupi is yet to get one.
