Seek suspension of SI and constable behind the alleged attack

  • Police sources claim it was lawyer who had provoked SI, using filthy language

ANANTAPUR: Members of bar associations boycotted courts in the district on Monday in protest against an alleged attack on a lawyer by the police at Bukkaraya Samudram on Saturday.

In Anantapur, the lawyers took out a procession from the district courts complex to the offices of the DIG of police of Anantapur Range and District Collector and submitted memoranda. They demanded immediate suspension of the Bukkaraya Samudram SI Raju and the constable Ramanjaneyulu, as they had allegedly attacked a lawyer, E. Venkatramudu, on Saturday.

They also led the procession to the General Hospital and complained to the hospital superintendent against the poor treatment given to Mr. Venkatramudu after he was admitted to the hospital.

Condemning the police attack on their colleague, the Anantapur Bar Association president Bhaskar Reddy, the general secretary B. Shyam and I. Ravindranath, a member of the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council, urged the police to rein in their officers.

Meanwhile, the DIG of police N. Jayarami Reddy was learnt to have sought report from the CI concerned on the incident.

The police sources stated that it was Mr. Venkatramudu who had provoked the SI and used filthy language and there was no attack on him.

The bar association in Kadapa district had decided to boycott courts on Tuesday expressing solidarity with their counterparts in Anantapur and in protest against the police highhandedness on lawyers.
