LUCKNOW: Major rivers including the Ganga, Yamuna and the Ghaghra were in a spate as several places in Uttar Pradesh received moderate to heavy rainfall since Sunday, Central Water Commission sources said here on Monday. The Ganga maintained a rising trend across Kannauj to Ballia while the Yamuna followed the same trend from Etawah to Naini, the sources said. The Ghaghra had crossed the danger mark at Elginbridge and Ayodhya by 0.42 m and 0.34 m respectively even as the Sharda and theKen were flowing above the mark at Shardanagar and Banda by 0.11 m and 1.15 m respectively, the sources said. During this period, Ayodhya received the maximum 12 cm rainfall, followed by 9 cm each at Allahabad, Rae Bareli and Varanasi, 8 cm at Bani, 7 cm at Kalpi and 6 cm each at Lucknow, Kanpur and Ballia, the Met office here said. They said monsoon, after a break of about a month, has become active in east Uttar Pradesh with good amount of rain recorded at several places in Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Allahabad, Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi divisions in the region. The remaining divisions of the State also received moderate rains at many places during this period, they said.
