ON MULAYAM'S TURF: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and UPCC president Salman Khursheed during the birth centenary celebration of Kamlapati Tripathi in Lucknow on Monday.

LUCKNOW: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday accused Uttar Pradesh of ``politicising'' water by not releasing the required amount of water to Delhi resulting in a crisis.

Interacting with newspersons here, Ms Dikshit said that even after several assurances, the U.P. Government was yet to release 300 cusecs of water to Sonia Vihar Water Works, which was essential for ensuring adequate drinking water to the Delhiites.

``I wanted to meet U.P. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav during my Lucknow visit, But unfortunately he is in Delhi,'' she said.

She said that enough funds had been invested for developing a channel from Tehri to Delhi to supply water and even a water treatment plant was constructed in U.P., but still nothing had materialised so far.

``The Sonia Vihar plant was also lying idle for the last one and a half years,'' she added.

Expressing her deep condolence over the death of seven people in an accident in Delhi early on Monday morning, Ms Dikshit said her Government was concerned about rising road accidents in the national Capital.

Admitting that the increase in number of vehicles and reckless driving was the main reason for the accidents, she said that her Government was constructing 42 flyovers in Delhi to ease out the traffic congestions.

Claiming that the row between Delhi and U.P. over plying of government buses had been sorted out, the Chief Minister said on September 2 an agreement would be signed between the two States in this regard. An estimated one million people from U.P. daily cross over to Delhi to earn their livelihood, she added. UNI
