Maoist killed in exchange of fire

HYDERABAD: The top CPI(M) Maoist leader, Diwakar alias Ravi alias Jangaiah, was killed in an exchange of fire with the police near Gokaram village of Veldanda mandal in Mahabubnagar district on Monday night. Another person was also killed.

According to information reaching here, the special police party combing the area came across a group of extremists and on noticing the police, the naxalites opened fire. The police also retaliated.

The firing lasted for one-and-a-half hour. After the firing from the other side stopped, the police searched the area and found two dead bodies one of which was identified as that of DCS secretary of Nalgonda district, Diwakar, while the other body was yet to be identified.

It is also learnt that five other naxalites managed to escape. The police are intensifying the combing.
