JAMMU: Gujjars are migrating from a remote village in Udhampur district to safer areas after the Lashkar-e-Taiba threatened to eliminate them. The threat comes almost a fortnight after a Gujjar killed a top Lashkar commander. Abdul Lateef shocked everybody when he killed a Lashkar commander, Abdul Adil, when terrorists tried to misbehave with his daughter after killing his brother. Mr. Lateef was seriously injured in the incident and was hospitalised by troops. Relatives of Mr. Lateef in the remote Thatha Thrika village migrated after being threatened by Lashkar militants. Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Ashok Parmar told The Hindu that they would do everything to protect his life. Gujjar organisations have appealed to the Centre and the State Government to take notice of Gujjars being killed by terrorists and to prevent it. ``Not a day passes without a poor Gujjar being killed by militants, and this is fast becoming a pattern. The authorities must act fast and take steps to stop this trend," said Shah Mohammad, the secretary-general, Gujjar United Front. Three members of a Gujjar family were killed in Rajouri district on Monday. Locals said the civilians were dragged out of their homes by terrorists before being killed.
