KARAIKAL: The Karaikal Struggle Group (KSG) has now demanded imposition of President's rule for Karaikal region. S.P. Selvashanmugham, convenor of the KSG and also the president of Pondicherry Cauvery Delta Farmers Legal Action Committee, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the members of the KSG, including R. Ramaseenivasan, freedom fighter and one of the founder members of the KSG, V.A. Kannaiah Thevar, A. Pakirisamy, V.S. Nallusamy and others participated in the fast at Kottucherry near Karaikal on Tuesday pressing their demand for separate UT status for Karaikal as the region did not see any major development and neglected by the Pondicherry Government. Mr. Selvashanmugham said that the KSG had put forth its new demand for imposition of President's rule for Karaikal stating that the law and order situation had deteriorated in the region and uncertainty prevailed over the post of the District Collector. He pointed out that several burning issues, including problems of fishermen and farmers, were not solved and the civic polls were not conducted for the past three-and-a-half decades. M. Chinnaiah Pillai, president of Kottucherry Commune Consumer Forum, presided over the fast at Kottucherry.
