Golf watches from TAG Heuer

Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI: TAG Heuer, a worldwide leader in luxury sport watches and chronographs, has launched professional golf watches weighing less than 55 gram, in association with LVMH Watch & Jewellery, the world's leading luxury product group.

Costing Rs. 55,000 a piece, the watches are available in a limited edition of 8,000 pieces worldwide and only 250 pieces in India. The watches with ultra-light weight, strap elasticity and anti-shock design could withstand impact of up to 5,000 G of shock absorption (45 times more than the shock received by the watch during a golf swing), according to Ravi Thakran, President, Asia Pacific, LVMH Watch & Jewellery (which launched this brand).

Mr. Ravi Thakran said the designer, Tiger Woods, a renowned golfer, was working on a prototype which would be even lighter and would offer more comfort.

He said TAG Heuer, the benchmark in prestigious sports watches and chronographs since 1860, currently ranked fourth luxury brand in the world watch market. The watch and jewellery division of LVMH had entered India in 2002 and has launched a range of watches aimed at niche segments.

The products were offered in India at prices similar to other countries even though import duties in India were much higher.

The range included professional sports watches (such as 2000 series, Kirium and Link and Formula 1), sports-inspired feminine models like Christian Dior and legendary classics.
