THENI: : The Highways Department has taken up road projects at an estimated cost of Rs.2.24 crores to provide connectivity to all villages in Andipatti block, said Collector Rajesh Lakhoni. Inspecting various rural road projects, funded by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development in the block here on Tuesday, he said work on laying of 1.25 km-long road connecting Muthukrishnapuram and T.V. Renganathapuram at a cost of Rs.25 lakhs has been expedited to meet the deadline. This road would be beneficial to 2,000 persons residing in Muthukrishnapuram, Renganathapuram, Lakshmipuram, Ayyanathevanpatti and T. Vadipatti. Another rural road connecting Vegavathi Ashram and Kannimangalam, being taken up at a cost of Rs.46 lakhs by the Highways Department, would benefit 2,500 people living in Ayyanathevanpatti, D. Vadipatti, T.V. Renganathapuram, and Kannimangalam. Mr. Lakhoni also inspected a 2.4-km-long rural road being laid between Asaripatti and Kombaipatti beneficial to 4,000 people in three villages. The Azhagapuri-Vandiyur road taken up at a cost of Rs.62.50 lakhs beneficial to 4,000 people living in Azhagapuri, Vandiyhur, Rayavelur, Kolinjipatti, Ramakrishnapuram and neighbouring villages and the Ramakrishanpuram and Rayavelur road at a cost of Rs.54.20 lakhs were other important rural roads under progress, he said. The Collector advised officials to expedite all works. Assistant Divisional Engineers A. Ganesan and S. Namasivayam, junior engineer R.V. Thangaraj and Assistant Engineer V. Manimaran accompanied the Collector.
