TIRUCHI: It is a conundrum that residents of Tiruchi have been unable to crack. Though the city Corporation had recently announced the "commencement" of the relaying of Anna Nagar Main Road, an arterial road in the city, there are no signs of the work actually being underway. The work was sanctioned and approved by the Corporation Council at a cost of Rs.50 lakhs several months ago. After an initial delay of a couple of months, the Corporation announced that the road would first be subjected to `lime treatment' to stabilise the soil. The treatment process, involving the injection of lime using drillers, was also completed promptly. Corporation officials said the relaying work would begin after a few days to allow the soil to settle down. But, even a fortnight after the preliminary work there are still no signs of anybody starting the work. Motorists, using the badly damaged road, continue to have a harrowing time for over a year now. Worse still, mofussil buses have also been diverted through the road making for a backbreaking ride for passengers. Many avoid the road leading to heavy congestion on Thennur High Road.
