CHENNAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has obtained important information in the `Volkswagen scam,' and is also trying to trace two persons, a senior CBI officer told The Hindu here on Tuesday. The CBI arrested Ashok Jain, Chief Adviser of the Volkswagen project in India, nearly 10 days ago. Initially, he was remanded to judicial custody. Later, the court granted CBI custody till August 25. The sources said the agency was working on the information it had received. Enquiries needed to be made with two more persons. One of them was allegedly abroad and efforts were on to locate him. Investigators have registered a First Information Report against two known persons and unknown others under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The allegation was that Mr. Jain played a crucial role in the negotiations with the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up the project. The CBI collected the required records from the Andhra Pradesh Government, the sources said, adding that it had recovered documents during the searches conducted at the residence of Mr. Jain, and the premises of two directors of `Vasistha Wahan' company Bhunesh Chaturvedi in Gurgaon and Jagdish Alagar Raja in Chennai.
