Toon Disney now in Hindi

FUN FOR KIDS: Much adored character, Mickey Mouse, of the cartoon channel

Walt Disney Television International-India (WDTV-I) will introduce a 24-hour cartoon channel, Toon Disney, in Hindi from September 1.

Recently launched in Tamil and Telugu to reach out to kids in South India, Toon Disney will now showcase its much-adored characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Spiderman in a fun-filled and action-packed adventure series.

As the underlying objective is to strike a chord with millions of children who are more at home in Hindi than English by bringing some hilarious, riveting stuff, the channel will also beam its high-energy programme Jetix in which superheroes fight evil.

This will be aired daily. Through its unique art of storytelling, every single serial has been created in such a way that children and grown-ups alike will find them engrossing.

"We want to reach out not only to children aged between four and 14 but also the larger set of community. To ensure that children appreciate the social set-up in which they live in, violence has been kept out of the serials. Parents trust Disney and we want to reaffirm that trust. As usual, our serials will have elements of fun, optimism and quality. Though there will be negative characters, no serial will have a negative ending as we want to show the victory of good over evil," said the managing director of WDTV-I, Rajat Jain, in the Capital on Tuesday.

Only 17 per cent of the children in the country view animation programmes according to a television viewing data. To popularise animation among those children who watch non-kids genre programming, the channel has dubbed 1, 800 episodes in Hindi for the first year. — Madhur Tankha
