CHENNAI: : Volunteers of the Dalit Panthers staged a demonstration here on Tuesday, criticising the Supreme Court judgment striking down reservation in admission to unaided private professional colleges.

The order, which permitted the colleges to admit students on their own without government interference, was a blow to "social justice," the agitators said.

They wanted the State Government to file a review petition in the apex court against the order. The Centre should enact legislation providing for reservation for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in private sector units and private educational institutions.

Party general secretary Thol.Tirumavalavan led the demonstration.

Similar agitations were held in other parts of the State, according to a party release.
