YERCAUD: The Horticulture Research Station (HRS), Yercaud, has advised the coffee planters, who face white stem borer (Xylotrechus quadripes) infestation in the coffee, to trace and destroy the infested plants regularly. Scrubbing the bark of the plant's main stem and thick primaries with coir-made gloves or coconut husk would help manage the infestation effectively. According to Associate Professor of HRS, V. Lakshmanan and Professor in Entomology P. Karuppuchamy , planters could easily identify the affected plants, as they would show ridges around the plant's stem. "Spraying the main stem and thick primaries of the coffee plant with chlorpyrifos 20EC once during April - May and October - December would control white stem borer infestation.
