`Dalit Christians a neglected lot'

PATHANAMTHITTA: Rural Development Minister C. F. Thomas has said that the duty of the Christians was to ensure social justice and world peace.

The Minister was inaugurating the meeting organised by the Kaippatta Habel Foundation to felicitate Bishop Stephen Vattappara, who has been elected vice-president of the International Council of Christian Churches, at the YMCA Hall on Monday. KHF chairman Samuel Nellikkad alleged that those belonging to the downtrodden sections of the society who have embraced Christianity were being neglected by both the Government and the mainstream Churches.

Denial of the reservation benefits for the socially and educationally backward sections of the society to the Dalit Christians was a testimony to this indifferent attitude of the Government towards them, he alleged.
