NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party president L.K. Advani noted on Tuesday that although the party had virtually given a "blank cheque" to the Government on reservation for women in legislatures, there were differences on the issue among the constituents of the ruling United Progressive Alliance and its supporting parties. Mr. Advani was addressing the weekly meeting of the parliamentary wing of the party and suggested that the Government continue its consensus-building efforts and "get the bill passed", party spokesperson V.K. Malhotra told reporters later. "Mr. Advani pointed out that the BJP had agreed to support any formula on women's reservation on which a consensus could be built," he said. "It seems that many parties prefer the Election Commission formula," under which it would be mandatory for political parties to give party tickets to a certain agreed percentage of women candidates, he added.
