MBR plant installed

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board has installed a membrane bio-reactor (MBR) plant to conduct a feasibility study at the sewage treatment plant at Okhla. The plant has been indigenously designed and constructed by Ion Exchange India Ltd.

The pilot project has been set up to evaluate the performance of the latest MBR technologies in treating and re-using sewage water for multiple applications.

Train frequency increased

NEW DELHI: Northern Railway has decided to increase the frequency of the 2445/2446 New Delhi-Udhampur-New Delhi Uttar Sampark Kranti Express train from September 4 from three days a week to six days, barring Fridays. In the return direction, the 2446 Udhampur-New Delhi Uttar Sampark Kranti Express train will now run on all days except Saturday from September 5.

Plan for Govt. hospitals

NEW DELHI: Delhi Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia on Tuesday said a comprehensive programme for improvement of Delhi Government hospitals was being prepared. All major hospital buildings would be made quake-resistant under this programme.

Dr. Walia made the announcement at a meeting that was attended by senior officials of the Public Works Department and the Health Department.

AWWA Raising Day

NEW DELHI: The Army Wives' Welfare Association (AWWA) celebrated its 39th Raising Day here on Tuesday.

The AWWA president, Anupama Singh, felicitated all the members of the association and exhorted them to continue extending a helping hand to the weak and helpless. Ms. Singh, who distributed aids and appliances to differently-abled children of Asha School, expressed confidence that AWWA's motto of "sharing and caring" would motivate the members to commit themselves for the noble cause.

Minister meets health officials

NEW DELHI: Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri chaired a meeting on "Water and Vector-Borne Diseases" at the Delhi Secretariat here on Tuesday. He instructed the health officials to take all necessary steps to check the spread of cholera and malaria in the Capital.

Expressing concern that 16 cases of cholera were reported in Delhi this past week, Dr. Shastri informed that of the 2,622 samples of water tested by the MCD, 79 were found unfit for consumption. Similarly, of a total of 932 samples of joint water testing with the Delhi Jal Board, 15 were found unfit. According to him,14 cases of dengue and one death have been reported this year in the MCD area and one case from the NDMC area.
