NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a 220 kV/66 kV grid sub-station at Bawana industrial area in North-West Delhi. Being constructed by the Delhi Transco Limited, the Rs.27-crore sub-station will get power from the Narela and Bawana grids. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said quality power would be supplied to the industrial units in the area once the sub-station was commissioned within a year. The load of the industrial area in phase-I was estimated to soar to 200 mega volt ampere (MVA). She also announced that the State Government would construct 3,000 low-cost houses for the workers in Bawana industrial area and steps would be taken to solve the water problem in the locality. Delhi Power Minister Haroon Yusuf and Transco Chairman and Managing Director Arun Goyal were also present on the occasion. The modern sub-station would be constructed by Alstom, a world leader in transmission and distribution equipment. Project that will provide power to the industrial area has been planned with adequate reserves to meet the outage condition of the production units.
