Management charged with going back on promise Management charged with going back on promise

KARIMNAGAR: The NTPC Ramagundam Land Oustees Association along with an all-party delegation of the Ramagundam industrial belt staged rasta roko on the busy Rajiv Rahadhari in front of the NTPC, Ramagundam on Tuesday asking the management to provide employment to the oustees.

The association founder president, S. Kumar, the president, Ramachander, the secretary, Bhaskar Reddy, the NTPC JAC leader, Chandraiah, the CITU leader, Mukund Reddy, the ex-MPP, Malla Goud, the TDP leader, Ilaiah Yadav, the BJP leader, Hari, the TRS leaders and others participated.

Mr. Kumar said that in 1988, the NTPC management had agreed to provide 225 jobs to the land oustees and signed an agreement with the State Government, Labour Department and the land oustees delegation. Till 1991, the NTPC had recruited only 141 persons and the remaining 88 jobs were given. Besides, justice was denied to SC\STs in the allocation of jobs, he said.

Following agitations, the NTPC management had promised to recruit the remaining 88 persons in a phased manner for its 500 MW seventh unit in 2001. Since then, there was no recruitment and the management had cleverly called for application forms and kept them aside without recruiting anyone. For the last 17 years, we have been waging a battle against the NTPC management for employment of land oustees in vain, he said. "Several youth, who were aspiring for jobs in NTPC, have crossed their age limit and are a worried lot," he said. The NTPC is not a loss-making unit and it has no reason to deny jobs after snatching away our precious agricultural lands, he said. He threatened to intensify the agitation by launching fast unto-death also.
