Alleged gangster gunned down

Was wanted in a gang-rape case at Bawana in N-W Delhi

NEW DELHI: An alleged gangster wanted in a gang-rape case in which the wife of a temple priest was criminally assaulted at Bawana in North-West Delhi on March 19 was gunned down in an encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police on Tuesday. A cash reward of Rs. 50,000 had been announced on his arrest in this case.

According to the police, a Special Cell team had information about the suspect coming to Begumpur village in North-West Delhi to meet his associates. Accordingly, a trap was laid at Sector-24 Rohini in North-West Delhi. Around 2 p.m., the suspect appeared on the scene on a motorcycle.

When the police tried to stop his vehicle, the suspect opened fire in a bid to flee. The police returned the fire in which the suspect, identified as Rajpal, was killed.

The police said Rajpal was involved in several cases of murder, attempt to murder, gang rape, dacoity, kidnapping for ransom, Arms Act and Gunda Act. A resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Rajpal, had entered the crime world after he killed his uncle following a family feud in the mid-1990s. He then came in contact with anti-social elements and later developed his own gang.

In Bawana, Rajpal along with his associates had entered the temple with an intention to commit dacoity but when they found the wife of the priest also there, they allegedly raped her.

Rajpal was active in Meerut, Hardwar, Saharanpur and Delhi. Further investigations in the case are on.

Another black dollar case

Police have arrested two foreigners from Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi for allegedly duping a businessman on the pretext of offering him 'black dollars'.

Emanuel and Kaycee, hailing from South Africa, were arrested from Najafgarh Road in Tilak Nagar on August 21 while they were to be handed over Rs five lakh by the complainant Manmohan Singh of Tilak Nagar, according to the police.

A briefcase containing the `black dollars' -- paper covered with black chemical which when washed with specific chemicals turned to original dollars, were recovered from their possession.

Singh had already paid Rs 21,500 and 52,000 to the accused to buy the cleansing agent to get the 'paper bills' converted to dollars, but got suspicious after they asked Rs five lakh more from him.
