NEW DELHI: Two young maids allegedly committed suicide under highly mysterious circumstances by hanging themselves from the ceiling of their employer's house at Preet Vihar in East Delhi on Tuesday. According to the police, the twin tragedy came to light when the family members of B.K. Grover went to the second floor of their house looking for their maids, Moni and Soma, around 7-30 a.m. The bodies of the two maids, both aged around 19, were found hanging in separate rooms where they used to stay. No suicide note was recovered. The police said the sequence of events leading to the tragedy was not clear. It appeared that the maids completed their day's tasks on Monday evening and then committed suicide some time in the night. Preliminary investigations revealed that while Moni was hired by Mr. Grover, who runs a watch shop in East Delhi, about six months ago, Soma was employed three months later. Both the housemaids, hailing from North 24-Paraganas in West Bengal, were hired from Kaka Domestic Placement Agency at Chirag Dilli in South Delhi. A senior police officer said the two maids were to be recalled by their agency in a day or two. Mr. Grover had hired Moni to take care of his ageing mother. Later, Soma was also hired for the same purpose. A few days ago, Mr. Grover's mother decided to go to some place after which the family decided to do away with one of the maids. The placement agency had decided to recall the two after which one would have been retained while the other sent to some other job. So far, the police have not come across any evidence of foul play. They are also trying to ascertain if the maids had any problems with their employer. "The post-mortem has been conducted and we are awaiting the report to rule out any foul play," said the officer. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Preet Vihar police station and further investigations are on.

17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her house at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi on Tuesday. According to the police, Babita Rawat, daughter of Hari Singh Rawat, a resident of Uttam Nagar, was found hanging from a ventilator grill around 1 p.m. The police said Babita, a first year student of Jesus and Mary College, had sent her younger brother out of the house on some pretext, while her parents were out at work. When the brother returned, he found the door of her room locked from inside. He raised an alarm following which the neighbours broke open the door. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
