This Day That Age
The Pakistan Government have decided to construct a permanent federal capital at a new site, Gadap, twenty miles north-east of Karachi. The decision was officially stated to have been taken after considering various factors such as climate, health, communications and future expansion. A committee appointed by the Central Government to select the site has recommended the Gadap area because, besides having the advantage of being close to Karachi, it gives relief from Karachi's oppressive humidity. The area also makes available a rising plain of about fifty square miles for development of the federal town. The committee has pointed out that in view of the distance between the new site and Karachi being small, the proposed federal capital would become New Karachi more or less like New Delhi.
