KARUR: Education authorities have ordered the Government Higher Secondary School, Krishnarayapuram, to be closed till Monday as trouble persisted in the campus for the second day on Tuesday following boycott on Monday and sit-in protest on Tuesday by students. Sources said that trouble started following the transfer of a physical education teacher, Velusamy, who had served the school for 25 years. Instigated by some unidentified persons, groups of students boycotted classes for half a day on Monday to express their displeasure over the transfer of Mr. Velusamy. A handful of students even pelted stone at some classrooms. Education department officials, led by the Chief Education Officer, Amuthavalli, visited the school and tried to reason out the students. Trouble came afore again on Tuesday when groups of students again clashed with the school authorities over the transfer and when Ms. Amuthavalli was trying to pacify them. Some parents too joined the students. After a lot of deliberations, the authorities decided to close down the school till Monday next. Sections of the public in Krishnarayapuram feel that only when both the groups were removed from the campus, could the school carry on its regular business.
