KARIMNAGAR.: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University has decided to open study centres in all taluq headquarters in a phased manner for the benefit of students, said the university Registrar Ghanta Chakrapathi here on Wednesday. Giving details about the Open University's new regional coordination centre, which would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajashekhar Reddy, here at S.R.R. Government Degree College premises on Thursday, the registrar said that the Karimnagar regional coordination centre was the 13th one of the university in the State. Each centre was constructed at a cost of Rs. 22 to 25 lakhs.
Three centres this year
He said that they had proposed they had proposed to open three study centres in Husnabad, Jammikunta and Sircilla towns this year for the benefit of students. He also said that they had plans to open a study centres exclusively for women at the Government Degree College premises in the town. The Karimnagar district tops in the enrolment of students into the Ambedkar open universities in the State. He said about 60,000 students had completed various courses from the university. Some 10,000 students were pursuing various courses in the district including 5,400 students at S.R.R. Degree College study centre, he added. He said that the Open University had gained popularity with several sports personalities. Chess players -- Hari Krishna and Koneru Hampi -- and the cricket player, Ambati Tirupathi Rao and others were taking various courses. He also said that they had decided to introduce all the M.Sc. related subjects at the S.R.R. Degree College study centre from the next academic year and transform the centre into a mini-campus.
Golden jubilee library
The S.R.R. Degree College principal B. Ramchander Rao said that the Chief Minister would also lay foundation stone for construction of golden jubilee library on the campus on Thursday. He said that they had planned to organise Satavahana book exhibition in the college campus.
