THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday authorised Chief Secretary Palatt Mohandas to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Internet City (DIC) authorities on the proposed Smart City Project in Kochi. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that signing would take place before the middle of September. The exact date and location would be decided later. The Chief Minister said work on the project would start during the tenure of the present Government itself. Time-bound action would be taken for that. Mr. Chandy said that what was being signed now was only an MoU. An agreement would be signed later after detailed discussions. The Cabinet had approved the MoU at its last meeting.
Copra procurement
The Cabinet approved the scheme for procurement of copra from the market with assistance from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the support price for mill copra would be Rs.3,570 a quintal. The procurement would be continued until the market price reached the support price. The current market price was Rs.3,325 a quintal. Thus the support price now was Rs.245 above the market price a quintal. The Chief Minister said that NABARD would fund the scheme. It would also select the agencies for carrying out the procurement.
