Labourer electrocuted

MYSORE: A labourer was electrocuted on Wednesday when he stepped on a live wire at Gowrishankar Nagar Layout.

The police gave the name of the victim as Gangadhar, 35, of Davangere.

Gangadhar was cutting a trench for a private telephone company when the incident occurred. A case has been registered.

Sentenced

The City Fourth Fast Track Court has sentenced three persons to nine years imprisonment for the death of a housewife following dowry harassment in September 2004. Judge K.A. Latha sentenced the accused Chandrashekar, his parents, Rukmini and Hanume Gowda of Belathur village in Periyapatna taluk, to nine years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 71,000 on each of them. She ordered them to undergo 13 months imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine. Asha, wife of Chandrashekar, committed suicide on September 28, 2004 following harassment for dowry from her husband and in-laws.
