Krishna water phase-II in a year, says YSR

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the second phase of bringing Krishna waters to the twin cities being taken up a cost of Rs. 1,100 crores will be completed positively within a year and efforts are being made to bring down the time frame to 10 months.

Pointing out that the city was growing at a rapid pace, Dr. Reddy felt that even the additional 90 million gallons a day expected to be sourced in the second phase might not be enough to meet its needs.

He was addressing a public meeting after laying a foundation stone for `Save Musi Campaign' on Wednesday.

"The city is already taking 11 TMC of water from Singur and people of Medak district have been protesting over denial of water to meet their requirements. Tapping Godavari river is the only solution and we will make a project report for tapping its water in three years," he said.

Stone laid for reservoir

Dr. Reddy also laid the foundation stone for Rs. 1 crore reservoir of the HMWSSB at the State Central Library to cater to the needs of residents of Gowliguda, Ashok Bazar and surrounding areas in Maharajgunj Assembly constituency.

The areas are located at the tail end of the Board's water supply system and suffer from erratic pressure and low supplies.

Addressing the gathering Dr. Reddy asked the HMWSSB Managing Director K.S. Jawahar Reddy to complete the works in four months. The Maharajgunj MLA M. Mukesh said works costing Rs. 4.5 crores including the Rs. 3.5 crore network of pipelines were grounded.

"The new reservoir would cover 50 per cent of the constituency and there is a need for another one at Feelkhana or Doodhkhana."
