Life term for three rape accused

The II Fast Track and Sessions Court, Bangalore Rural district, has convicted and sentenced three persons from Guni Agrahara village to life imprisonment for raping a married woman.
According to the charge-sheet filed by the Sooladevanahalli police in the court, around 8.30 p.m. on April 25, 2004, the victim got down from a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus near Lakshmipura Cross and was walking towards her house in Guni Agrahara.
Three persons from the same village, Nagaraja, Manjunath and Mali alias Manjuntah, kidnapped her in an autorickshaw and took her to Talekatte on Ganigarahalli Road.
They held her captive for the whole night and raped her. When she tried to escape, they punched her on the face and attempted to kill her, the charge-sheet said. Around 10.30 a.m. on April 26, the woman came to Sooladevanahalli police station and lodged a complaint. The Sooladevanahalli police arrested the three and filed a charge-sheet against them in the court.
Judge A.N. Hakeem sentenced the three to 10 years of simple imprisonment and fined them Rs. 10,000 each for kidnapping the woman.
