This Day That Age
Sardar K.M. Panikkar said in Madras on August 24 that the States Reorganisation Commission's report would be signed and submitted to the Government on September 30. Sardar Panikkar, who arrived in Madras on August 24 afternoon by air from Delhi, was speaking to pressmen at the Meenambakkam airport. When his attention was drawn to certain press reports which stated that the formation of linguistic provinces of Karnataka and Kerala might become a reality before the general elections, he replied, "I do not know anything about it." When a reporter enquired if there was any basis for the speculation that he (Sardar Panikkar) was likely to take up a new diplomatic assignment, he said, "I totally deny that there is any foundation for such a speculation." He added that his meeting with Prime Minister Nehru on August 23 had nothing to do with any such proposal.
