MUMBAI: The Mumbai police arrested around 190 people, including customers, 79 bar girls, bar staff and owners, in the first raids on dance bars after the ban came into being on August 14. They have been remanded to police custody till August 29. The police raided six bars in the western suburbs such as Andheri, Saki Naka and Powai. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravindra Shengaonkar said that they were arrested as women staff were present after the stipulated time. Manjit Singh Sethi, president of the Bar Owners' Association alleged that it was fabricated. "The girls were working there as waitresses. There was no music system, no dancing costume, no stage nor any dance lights. " DCP Shengaonkar, however, said the girls were dancing.
