Kochi
Kochi's date with Mangal Pandey has evoked a fairly good response with people rushing to know more about the 1857 sepoy mutiny. The history books do not specify the name of the first martyr of the freedom struggle. Fans are flocking to Sridhar theatre to have a `dekko' of Aamir's latest film. Filmmaker Ketan Mehta has depicted the hero as daring through a few incidents, such as the one in which he saves an Indian servant from being beaten up and a nautch girl from being taken away by a British officer. The film depicts the mutiny, which began as a religious rebellion, changing in to a struggle for freedom. The freedom movement was one in which many kings and nawabs had wanted to participate. With many aspects of the history being narrated in the background, one sometimes got the feeling of watching a documentary. Shyama Rajagopal
